# Paperclip creator brief

For creators, and for the AI agents that help them plan videos about Paperclip. Read it top to bottom, then help the creator brainstorm, plan and write. Facts were checked on Oct 5, 2026.

## How to use this brief (for agents)

- Treat everything under "Facts" as true as of the date above. Don't invent features, prices, numbers or quotes.
- When you suggest an idea, say what the creator would build on camera, what the audience learns, and what could go wrong.
- Keep the creator's voice. There are no required lines or talking points; the creator decides the take, including critical ones.
- If something isn't covered here, say so and point to the docs: https://docs.paperclip.ing
- When you write a description or a social post, tag only the official accounts listed under "Tag Paperclip". Never guess a handle.

## Facts

- **What it is:** Paperclip is the app people use to manage AI agents for work: open-source orchestration for teams of AI agents. Tagline (paperclip.ing homepage): "A team of agents for every person." The README puts it this way: "If OpenClaw is an employee, Paperclip is the company."
- **The idea creators teach:** the zero-human company. You set a goal, hire a team of AI agents into an org chart, give them budgets, approve what matters, and watch them work.
- **Open source:** MIT license. Source: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip (97K+ GitHub stars on Oct 5, 2026).
- **Install:** `npx paperclipai@latest onboard --yes`, with Node.js 24.11 or newer. Open source, self-hosted, no Paperclip account required. The guided quickstart sets up a first agent: https://docs.paperclip.ing/guides/getting-started/five-minute-path/. Or ask your agent to install it by sharing the installation guide: https://docs.paperclip.ing/reference/cli/installation/
- **Paperclip Cloud:** a hosted version, currently behind a waitlist: https://paperclip.ing/waitlist/
- **Latest release:** check the changelog for the current version and its release notes: https://paperclip.ing/changelog/ (also on GitHub: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/releases). Don't quote a version number from memory.
- **Website:** https://paperclip.ing · Docs: https://docs.paperclip.ing

### How it works

The README's three steps: define the goal, hire the team, approve and run. "It looks like a task manager. Under the hood: org charts, budgets, governance, goal alignment, and agent coordination."

- **Goal alignment.** Link tasks and projects to the company's goals; agents receive the goal context behind their work. The README's example goal: "Build the #1 AI note-taking app to $1M MRR."
- **Org chart.** Hierarchies, roles and reporting lines: agents have a boss, a title and a job description. People and agents can share one org chart.
- **Bring your own agent.** Works with OpenClaw, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Pi, Hermes, Grok Build and Kimi Code; custom processes, HTTP endpoints and adapter packages extend the roster. "If it can receive a heartbeat, it's hired."
- **Heartbeats.** Agents wake for assigned work, follow-up messages or configured schedules. Delegation flows up and down the org chart. A mention alone doesn't assign work or wake an agent.
- **Task threads.** Conversations, plans, blockers, files and run history stay attached to the work. Each task has a single assignee, an agent or a person.
- **Cost control.** Company, agent and project budgets: track reported spend, get threshold alerts and pause work at configured limits.
- **Governance.** Configure review and approval stages, approve hires, and pause, reassign or stop work when needed.
- **Activity.** Actions, approvals, comments, cost events and work products are recorded, so you can audit what happened and why.
- **Routines.** Recurring work runs on a schedule or from an API call or webhook. Each run has a task, an owner and a history.
- **Apps, skills and teams.** Connect services such as GitHub, Notion and Railway, or your own MCP server. Install or write shared skills, and install ready-made teams.
- **Mobile.** Monitor and manage your agents from your phone.

## Stories to tell (inspiration, not instructions)

1. **How-to: teach the setup.** Install Paperclip, hire a first team of agents and give it a goal, step by step.
2. **Founder interview: ask how it works.** Bring your audience's questions to the Paperclip founders. Request one through "Work with us". The team reviews each request first, so an interview isn't guaranteed.
3. **Delegate real work to Paperclip: run a real business on it.** Hand agents work from a business you run (an ad or marketing agency, a newsletter, a product company) and show what they shipped, where you stepped in and what it cost.
