## Overview

Paperclip’s Shopify MCP connector gives your AI agents tools to search products, read policies and manage shopping carts, depending on the server option you choose. Each tool can be Allowed, Ask first or Off.

Agents reach one public storefront. This connection does not grant Shopify Admin access to merchant orders, customers or inventory.

## What agents can do with Shopify

- Find products and inspect their details (`search_catalog`, `get_product`)
- Review a cart before changing items (`get_cart`, `update_cart`)
- Start and review a checkout (`create_checkout`, `get_checkout`)

## How to connect Shopify

1. In Paperclip, open Connectors and select Shopify.
2. On the Access step, choose the identity and which agents may use the connection.
3. Choose Shopify UCP commerce or Storefront policies and compatibility tools. Enter the public storefront’s bare permanent myshopify.com host, without https:// or a path.

This list describes the reviewed tools. Your selected method, provider access and action permissions determine what agents can use.

These lists use a conservative permission policy. Read requires a provider read-only hint or a reviewed Paperclip read rule. Evidence that an action changes data or submits information elsewhere puts it in Write. Write also includes actions we cannot verify as read-only. Read describes the reviewed evidence; it does not guarantee that an action has no side effects. A connected account can group actions differently.

Catalog, cart and checkout tools belong to Shopify UCP commerce. The compatibility endpoint provides only policy and FAQ tools. Paperclip uses Shopify’s documented April 8, 2026 agent profile; its acceptance by a store is unverified. Endpoint discovery and available tools depend on the store and account.

Tools for Shopify UCP commerce

`cancel_cart`, `cancel_checkout`, `complete_checkout`, `create_cart`, `create_checkout`, `get_cart`, `get_checkout`, `get_product`, `lookup_catalog`, `search_catalog`, `update_cart`, `update_checkout`

Tools for Storefront policies and compatibility tools

`search_shop_policies_and_faqs`

### Connection policies

Discovered actions follow the connection’s policies. Review their permissions and set actions to Ask first or Off as needed. Keep complete_checkout, cancel_cart and cancel_checkout Off or Ask first because they complete purchases or cancel carts and checkouts.

## Shopify connector FAQ

### Can I require approval for actions?

Set an action to Ask first to require human approval of each call or Off to prevent calls. Allowed actions run without approval. Read and Write grouping is separate from these settings.

### What can agents reach in Shopify?

Agents reach one public storefront. This connection does not grant Shopify Admin access to merchant orders, customers or inventory.

### What do I need before connecting?

Use a public, unprotected storefront and its permanent myshopify.com host. There is no account sign-in.
